Finding Second Wind when the Soul is Threadbare

March 8, 2026

    • Power Point

    Text: Daniel 7:25; Galatians 6:9; Isaiah 40:28-31

    I. The Strategy of the “Slow Wear”

We often prepare for the “lion’s den”—the big, dramatic moments of testing. But Daniel 7:25 warns of a different tactic: the wearing out of the saints.

    • The Definition: The Hebrew word belā describes a garment being rubbed until it is thin, transparent, and finally tears.

    • The Reality: It’s not one tragedy; it’s the cumulative weight of ten thousand “small” things. It’s the chronic illness that won’t lift, the child who won’t return, the bills that never stop, and the silence of God that feels like abandonment.

    • The Goal: The enemy doesn’t need you to hate God; he only needs you to be too tired to trust Him.

    II. Validating the Exhaustion

If you are ready to give up, you are in “biblical company.”

    • Elijah sat under the broom tree and asked to die after his greatest victory (1 Kings 19).

    • David cried out, “How long, O Lord? Will you forget me forever?” (Psalm 13:1).

    • The Message: Being “worn out” is not a sin; it is a condition of the human soul under spiritual atmospheric pressure. You are not “failing” at being a Christian; you are experiencing the friction of a world that is not your home.

III. The Anatomy of “Giving Up”

Why do we want to quit? Usually, it’s because we are trying to survive the “last days” on yesterday’s strength. * We try to “white-knuckle” our faith.

    • We mistake activity for authority.

    • We begin to believe the lie that if God were “in it,” it would be easier.

Crucial Truth: The “wearing out” isn’t a sign that God has left the building; it’s often a sign that you are a primary target because your perseverance is a threat to the darkness.

IV. The Way Back: Exchanging Strength

The remedy is found in the famous “wait upon the Lord” passage (Isaiah 40:31).

    • The “Exchange”: The Hebrew word for “renew” (halaph) actually means “to exchange.”

    • The Strategy: You don’t “pump yourself up.” You lay down your threadbare, exhausted strength and put on His.

    • Rest as Resistance: In a world that wears us out with “doing,” the most radical act of faith is “abiding.” Sometimes, the most spiritual thing you can do is sleep, eat, and remind your soul that the battle is the Lord’s—not yours to win, but His to finish.

    V. The Promise of the Finish Line

To the “last day” Christian: The friction is high because the finish line is close.

    • Galatians 6:9 promises: “In due season we will reap, if we do not give up.“

    • The “due season” is a set time. The “wearing out” has an expiration date; God’s grace does not.

    Closing Call to Action

The Prayer for Spiritual Resilience (Based on Daniel 7:25)

“Father, I recognize the strategy of the enemy to wear me out. I refuse to let the friction of this world make my spirit threadbare. I put on the ‘garment of praise’ for the spirit of heaviness. Strengthen my inner man. When I am too tired to run, help me to walk. When I am too tired to walk, help me to stand. I declare that my faith is not based on my feelings of energy, but on Your unchanging character. Surround me with Your community and restore my joy. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
