I. The Indwelling Presence
Scripture: “And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate, who will never leave you. He is the Holy Spirit, who is holy and who will teach you all things and remind you of everything I have said to you.” (John 14:16-17)
Explanation:
The Promise: Jesus promises the Holy Spirit as a comforter and guide.
The Reality: This isn’t a future promise; it’s a present-day reality for believers. The Holy Spirit dwells within us, making us temples of God (1 Corinthians 6:19).
Application:
Awareness: Encourage listeners to be conscious of the Spirit’s presence in their daily lives.
Submission: Invite them to yield to the Spirit’s leading, allowing Him to direct their thoughts, words, and actions.
II. The Empowering Spirit
Scripture: “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” (Acts 1:8)
Explanation:
The Power Source: The Holy Spirit is the power source for Christian living and service.
The Transformation Agent: The Spirit transforms ordinary people into extraordinary witnesses.
Application:
Boldness: Challenge listeners to step out in faith, trusting the Spirit to empower them to share their faith and serve others.
Dependency: Encourage them to rely on the Spirit for strength, wisdom, and courage.
III. The Fruit of the Spirit
Scripture: “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.” (Galatians 5:22-23)
Explanation:
The Divine Nature: The fruit of the Spirit is evidence of God’s work in our lives.
The Character Transformation: The Spirit cultivates godly character, enabling us to live as Christ-like individuals.
Application:
Self-Examination: Invite listeners to assess their lives, looking for evidence of the Spirit’s fruit.
Cultivation: Encourage them to pray for the Spirit’s work in their hearts, specifically asking for the development of these qualities.
