🛡️ Unbreakable Protection: The Heritage of God’s Servants
(Sermon Text: Isaiah 54:17)
Introduction: The Universal Conflict
Good morning. I want to start by asking a simple, honest question: Have you ever felt attacked?
I’m not talking about a physical fight, but a spiritual, emotional, or financial assault. We all know the feeling of being under pressure. Life, as Jesus told us, is not easy:
[Read John 16:33] “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
Trouble is guaranteed. The enemy, who the Bible calls the Accuser, is constantly at work. He forms weapons: the weapon of fear, the weapon of sickness, the weapon of financial instability, and the weapon of bitter criticism.
But for the servant of the Living God, there is a promise—a covenant promise—that stands above every attack, every rumor, and every crisis. It is a declaration of victory spoken by God Himself.
Turn with me to the Book of Isaiah, chapter 54, verse 17. Let us read this life-changing declaration aloud:
[Read Isaiah 54:17] “No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and their righteousness is of me, saith the Lord.”
This morning, we are going to explore this verse as our spiritual heritage. It is not a casual saying; it is a divine decree over your life. We will see how this heritage secures Unbreakable Protection in two key ways.
Point 1: The Promise of IMPOTENCE
The Weapon Shall Not Prosper
Notice the first phrase: “No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper.”
The verse does not say the weapon won’t be formed. The enemy is industrious; he will work hard to create trials, temptations, and traps. But God sets an absolute limit: the weapon shall not prosper. The Hebrew word for prosper means to succeed, to advance, or to accomplish its intended, destructive goal.
Illustration: The Faulty Design
Imagine a sophisticated military weapon designed to destroy. It costs billions, is launched with maximum intent, but just before it hits its target, a tiny, undetectable flaw causes it to detonate harmlessly.
God is the ultimate QA (Quality Assurance) Tester. He allows the formation of the weapon, but He has placed a guaranteed flaw in its design—it is spiritually incapable of prospering against His child.
We have this guarantee:
[Read Jeremiah 1:19] “They will fight against you but will not overcome you, for I am with you to rescue and save you,” declares the LORD.
The Test of the Fire (The Refining Power)
Sometimes, the weapon lands. You lose your job. You get a bad diagnosis. A relationship breaks. Does that mean the weapon prospered? Not according to God’s higher purpose!
[Read Romans 8:28] “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”
The enemy sends a fire to consume you. But God uses the fire to refine you, just as a blacksmith uses fire to burn away dross and purify the gold. The weapon failed its original assignment—destruction—and God succeeded in His higher assignment—purification.
The takeaway: The success rate for any weapon aimed at a FULLY COMMITTED SERVANT OF THE LORD is zero percent.
Point 2: The Power of VINDICATION
-
Every Tongue You Shall Condemn
The enemy is a two-part attacker: first, the weapon (circumstance); second, the tongue (accusation). If he can’t defeat you with a trial, he will try to defeat you with a lie, with condemnation, or with slander.
-
The Bible calls the devil the Accuser of the brethren
(Revelation 12:10). This tongue rises up in your mind, in your family, and in your workplace. It whispers, “You are a failure. You are unworthy. You will never change.”
But the promise is that YOU shall condemn the tongue. This is an active response!
Illustration: Courtroom Immunity
Imagine a courtroom. The powerful Prosecutor (the Accuser) stands and shouts your flaws and failures. But before the Judge (God) can hear the evidence, He interrupts. Why? Because you have absolute immunity.
[Read Romans 8:33–34] “Who shall bring any charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies. Who is to condemn? Christ Jesus is the one who died—more than that, who was raised—who is at the right hand of God, who indeed is interceding for us.”
We condemn the tongue not by arguing with people, but by declaring the divine verdict! When the Accuser says, “You are guilty!” you declare, “It is God who justifies!”
The Lifter of the Head
Condemnation causes us to walk with shame, our head bowed. But God’s vindication restores our dignity.
[Read Psalm 3:3] “But you, LORD, are a shield around me, my glory, and the One who lifts my head high.”
You have the authority to speak the Word of God and silence the voices of shame and condemnation, whether they come from the outside or from within.
Conclusion: Living in the Heritage
This brings us to the most important part of the promise: “This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and their righteousness is of me, saith the Lord.”
This victory—the impotence of the weapon and the power of vindication—is not a lucky charm; it is your heritage. It is an inheritance, a legal right given to every servant of God.
And why is this heritage unbreakable? Because it is founded on God’s righteousness, not our shifting performance.
[Read 2 Corinthians 5:21] “God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.”
We are protected because we are covered by the perfect, unbreakable righteousness of Christ!
Illustration: The Will and the Inheritance
You don’t earn an inheritance; you simply claim it by virtue of your family relationship. Our heritage of protection is secured by the cross. We don’t have to work for it, earn it, or deserve it. We only need to claim it and live like the spiritual heir that we are.
Call to Action (The “Now What?”)
Today, stop treating this promise as a nice saying, and start treating it as your unbreakable heritage.
Stop Fearing the Formed Weapon: Walk out of here today in the confidence that the trial you face is destined to fail its assignment. The weapon may be formed, but its success rate is zero.
Start Declaring the Truth: Use your voice to reject every internal whisper and external judgment. You are justified. You are protected. You are an overcomer.
Let us pray and claim this heritage right now.
