The Family of God part 3
With Rev. Jay Watson
Good afternoon, my name is Jay Watson it’s July 11, 2021 and today I will be bringing you a message titled the Family of God part 3. First I want to thank all of our family members here in our Macon Georgia chapel and all of you who have tuned in via internet broadcasting. We want to continue to lift Brother Ron and Sheila up in prayer. This coming week he will be undergoing another surgical procedure to remove his gallbladder. Let us start by praying for God’s perfect will concerning this message and healing for Ron and Sheila.
Let us pray:
In the last two messages, we looked at the characteristics that should be evident as a family members in God’s Kingdom (in the family). The second message was about the benefits or the blessedness of being in the family of God. (it was spelled out in the
message of the Beatitudes when Jesus was teaching his disciples ).
This week I would like to talk about what we should do keep ourselves active and involved as part of God’s Kingdom (or as to say alive and well as a part of the family).
First thing we should understand is that we were formed and fashioned by God having three separated parts, those being Spirit , Soul and body. Paul talks about the three parts in,
1 Thessalonians 5:23 (amplified version)
1- Thessalonians chapter 5:23, Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you through and through [that is, separate you from profane and vulgar things, make you pure and whole and undamaged—consecrated to Him—set apart for His purpose]; and may your spirit and soul and body be kept complete and [be found] blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. Verse 24, Faithful and absolutely trustworthy is He who is calling you [to Himself for your salvation], and He will do it [He will fulfill His call by making you holy, guarding you, watching over you, and protecting you as His own.
*******************************
We need to realize that these three parts are first different and secondly they all play a part as we function in the family setting.
Look at John 14:16-17 (reading from the amplified bible version).
The first part, the Spirit is the same Spirit the Holy Spirit. We all come here with the Spirit built in so God can reach out to us. The Spirit can only speak to the Spirit not the flesh.
Verse 16, And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper (Comforter, Advocate, Intercessor—Counselor, Strengthener, Standby), to be with you forever—Verse 17, the Spirit of Truth, whom the world cannot receive [and take to its heart] because it does not see Him or know Him, but you know Him because He (the Holy Spirit) remains with you continually and will be in you.
We are a spirit being with a soul living in a physical body…Your spirit is where we are re-born from.
When we are born again. What happens is our spirit is re-born and we live a new life in Christ Jesus with the Holy Spirits help.
Look at Hebrews 4:12 (amplified)
For the word of God is living and active and full of power [making it operative, energizing, and effective]. It is sharper than any two-edged sword, penetrating as far as the division of the soul and spirit [the completeness of a person], and of both joints and marrow [the deepest parts of our nature], exposing and judging the very thoughts and intentions of the heart.
********************************
I’m going to jump over talking about the soul and talk about the body next only because the soul is where I want to spend the most my time today. The body is a container or an earth suit that is made of flesh and houses the other two parts we’re talking about today. Look at Romans 12:1-2 (amplified),
Verse 1- Therefore I urge you, brothers and sisters, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies [dedicating all of yourselves, set apart] as a living sacrifice, holy and well-pleasing to God, which is your rational (logical, intelligent) act of worship. Verse 2-And do not be conformed to this world [any longer with its superficial values and customs], but be transformed and progressively changed [as you mature spiritually] by the renewing of your mind [focusing on godly values and ethical attitudes], so that you may prove [for yourselves] what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect [in His plan and purpose for you].
Our flesh and blood (our body) will not enter the kingdom of God. But as we transform our soul (mind and emotions) and follow the Spirit, the body will follow and will deliver us or carry us to that day when we’re called home weather it’s when Jesus returns or Jesus takes our last breathe from us and takes us home.
Let’s go to, 1 Corinthians 15:50,(amplified) Now I say this, believers, that flesh and blood cannot inherit nor be part of the kingdom of God; nor does the perishable (mortal) inherit the imperishable(immortal). The flesh want enter because it’s full of sin.
Now let’s take a look at the Soul…..let’s start by looking at 2 Corinthians 10:2-5,
Verse 2- I ask that when I do come I will not be driven to the boldness that I intend to show toward those few who regard us as if we walked according to the flesh [like men without the Spirit].verse 3-For though we walk in the flesh [as mortal men], we are not carrying on our [spiritual] warfare according to the flesh and using the weapons of man. Verse 4-The weapons of our warfare are not physical [weapons of flesh and blood]. Our weapons are divinely powerful for the destruction of fortresses. Verse 5-We are destroying sophisticated arguments and every exalted and proud thing that sets itself up against the [true] knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought and purpose captive to the obedience of Christ.
Our Soul is made up of our mind and emotions and is connected to our heart,
If we feed the carnal part of our being, it will lead us to be more carnal in our mind and emotions. (the soul) but if we submit to the Holy Spirit where he can lead us into all things of God the Spirit man will prosper and the carnal man will die.
Ron has talked a lot about how our mind is where sin starts. The sin occurs when we allow a thought to enter into our mind and the body physically reacts to that thought.
When the enemy comes to steal, kill and destroy you, he attacks your soul, that six or eight inches(depending on the size of your head) of mass between your ears and right behind your eyes.
The devil knows not to mess with Spirit man but he always comes after the carnal man. The battlefield is right here in your mind.
Our Spirits are born again and re-created in the new birth but the soul is not. The new birth is a spiritual experience and when you get re-born again you must renew your minds daily. Look at Romans 12:2 (amplified)
Verse 2- And do not be conformed to this world [any longer with its superficial values and customs], but be transformed and progressively changed [as you mature spiritually] by the renewing of your mind [focusing on godly values and ethical attitudes], so that you may prove [for yourselves] what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect [in His plan and purpose for you].
When we re-new our minds with the word of God we start to transform our souls from carnal to spiritual or is to say lord let there be less of me and more of you(Jesus). Look at John 3:30-36,(amplified)
Verse 30-He must increase [in prominence], but I must decrease. Verse 31-“He who comes from [heaven] above is above all others; he who is of the earth is from the earth and speaks [about things] of the earth [his viewpoint and experience are earthly]. He who comes from heaven is above all. Verse 32-What He has [actually] seen and heard, of that He testifies; and yet no one accepts His testimony [as true]. Verse 33-Whoever receives His testimony has set his seal [of approval] to this: God is true [and he knows that God cannot lie]. Verse 34-For He whom God has sent speaks the words of God [proclaiming the Father’s own message]; for God gives the [gift of the] Spirit without measure [generously and boundlessly]! Verse 35-The Father loves the Son and has given and entrusted all things into His hand. Verse 36-“He who believes and trusts in the Son and accepts Him [as Savior] has eternal life [that is, already possesses it]; but he who does not believe the Son and chooses to reject Him, [disobeying Him and denying Him as Savior]
will not see [eternal] life, but [instead] the wrath of God hangs over him continually.”
When that thought or temptation enters your soul (into your mind) at that point we have the opportunity to cast it down and send it away from us. We have to discern that thought as to Good vs Evil or God’s way or the devil’s way. God did not give us a spirit of fear but a Spirit of sound judgement. Look at 2 Timothy1:7 (amplified),
For God did not give us a spirit of timidity or cowardice or fear, but [He has given us a spirit] of power and of love and of sound judgment and personal discipline [abilities that result in a calm, well-balanced mind and self-control].
Now as we grow up and become that spiritual man or woman, we have to fight off the devil and the ways he comes to steal, kill and destroy and he lies to us and tries every way he can to bring us back under defeat. Look at 1 Corinthians 3:1-2.(amplified)
Verse 1-However, brothers and sisters, I could not talk to you as to spiritual people, but [only] as to worldly people [dominated by human nature], mere infants [in the new life] in Christ! Verse 2- I fed you with milk, not solid food; for you were not yet able to receive it. Even now you are still not ready.
Paul was telling the Corinthians to grow up spiritually so they couldn’t be used by the devil and so they could get along with one another and act like they belonged in God’s family. We are spiritual beings from heaven, here on earth as ambassadors for Christ and we should act that way at all times.
We live by a different set of rules because of who’s we are not what we are.
Look at Roman 8:2, (amplified) For the law of the Spirit of life [which is] in Christ Jesus [the law of our new being] has set you free from the law of sin and of death.
We need to know how to do use our spiritual weapons so these thoughts sent by the devil want blindsid and cause us to sin.
REMEMBER: evil thought and then physical action by the body equals the sin.
Look at Colossians 3:1-3, (amplified).
Verse 1-Therefore if you have been raised with Christ [to a new life, sharing in His resurrection from the dead], keep seeking the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Verse 2-Set your mind and keep focused habitually on the things above [the heavenly things], not on things that are on the earth [which have only temporal value]. Verse 3-For you died [to this world], and your [new, real] life is hidden with Christ in God.
Go back to 2 Corinthians 10:4(amplified),
The weapons of our warfare are not physical [weapons of flesh and blood]. Our weapons are divinely powerful for the destruction of fortresses.
My conclusion: Our weapons from the verse we just gave you are spiritual weapons we have developed along a path of growing up with God. The weapons are given to those who belong to the family of God or the Kingdom, because we are made sons of God in Christ Jesus.
Last scripture, look at John 1:12-13(amplified), verse 12-But to as many as did receive and welcome Him, He gave the right [the authority, the privilege] to become children of God, that is, to those who believe in (adhere to, trust in, and rely on) His name—Verse 13-who were born, not of blood [natural conception], nor of the will of the flesh [physical impulse], nor of the will of man [that of a natural father], but of God [that is, a divine and supernatural birth—they are born of God—spiritually transformed, renewed, sanctified].
This is where I’m going stop for today.
I want to Thank for spending time with us today and may God bless each and everyone watching and listening. Remember to pray for Ron as he goes for surgery this coming week.
Thank you
